HIGHLINE SEATAC BOTANICAL GARDEN

A One-of-a-kind Heritage Location Preserving the Area’s Most Treasured Gardens

Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden

Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden is a collection of heritage gardens and unique plant collections brought together in a public garden setting that invites the community to connect through spending time in nature.

The 11-acre botanical garden is located at the nexus of multiple diverse, urban communities within the Burien and SeaTac neighborhoods of South Seattle, minutes from the Seattle Tacoma International Airport. The Garden’s uplifting origin story is one of collaboration and community support: The Foundation formed when two private gardens were scheduled for demolition to make room for the flight path of Seattle Tacoma International Airport’s third runway in 1999. Recognizing the cultural and recreational value of the Elda Behm Paradise Garden and the Seike Family Japanese Garden, hundreds of community members came together to find the land, funding, and labor to relocate these gardens.

The Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden is a partnership between the City of SeaTac, the Port of Seattle, and the Highline Botanical Garden Foundation. The organization continues to fulfill its mission in myriad ways by cultivating community focused events, programming, and by remaining open and accessible through complimentary admissions.

Our Mission

Connecting the community to nature through a diverse and beautiful collection of historical gardens.

The Highline Botanical Garden Foundation was created by volunteers, to preserve two important gardens impacted by SeaTac Airport’s proposed third runway. Through a partnership between volunteers, the City of SeaTac, and the Port of Seattle, the Foundation moved thousands of plants from to the North SeaTac Park.
